Six People Found Dead Inside Home in Gated Community

PORTER RANCH -- Six people, 3 adults, and 3 children, were found dead early Monday morning inside an exclusive community in Porter Ranch. All are believed to be members of the same family.

Police say the case appears to be a murder-suicide. A gun was found at the scene, along with three notes. One of the notes was addressed to law enforcement. A second was addressed to friends and family and a third is believed to be his last will and testament.

The bodies were discovered around 7 a.m. inside the home on Como Lane, located in an exclusive gated community in the northwest San Fernando Valley, according to LAPD officer Sara Faden. Officers were called to the scene after a neighbor called police asking them to check in on the family.

The bodies were found in separate rooms inside the home. All were shot to death. Investigators say the victims were believed to have been killed around 6pm Saturday night.

The victims included a father, his wife, 70 year old mother-in-law, two children ages 7 and 12 and a teenager.

Los Angeles Police Department source said the gunman apparently had financial problems and killed his mother-in-law, wife and three children before taking his own life.

The family did not own the home. The homeowner says the family was renting the property and never missed a payment.

Porter Ranch is about 23 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles

A sure sign of the times that just because someone is having financial troubles, even though they were never late on a house payment, just the bad economy itself can lead to tragedy.
